Texting While Driving Is Illegal

In 2010, texting while driving was banned in Massachusetts. Under the law, drivers are banned from texting and e-mailing while operating a motor vehicle. The ban is not limited to periods of actively driving, these actions are prohibited while stopped at lights and stop signs. Violations of the law can result in a $100 fine.

For drivers under 18, no cell phone use of any kind is allowed and they face stiff penalties if found to be in violation of the law.
